The Fog's Trailer at Sony Pictures
Sat July 30th 2005 @ 4:56AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
Sony Pictures have recently updated their previews listing with a link to view The Fog's trailer - you'll find that here.
Just in case you've had trouble viewing the trailer elsewhere, at Sony you can view it in either Windows Media or Real Player format. Hopefully this update means that The Fog's official site will also be updated fairly soon; and perhaps that there may eventually be a few other preview clips in addition to the trailer.
Tom Meets Kristin
Fri July 29th 2005 @ 3:59AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
At last Friday's Television Critics Association presentation, E!'s Kristin (of Watch With Kristin fame) spoke to Tom about Smallville's quickly approaching fifth season. In her latest column, she shared a few of Tom's quotes, including his thoughts on a young Brainiac ("I'm very interested to see who Brainiac was in his younger years, and I'm very interested to see James [Marsters] without the accent and the blond hair."), and his personal confirmation that he should – as I reported a few days ago – be directing at least one episode of Smallville's upcoming season:
Tom went on to discuss the magnitude of the season in comparison to the four that have come before it, and how the relationships on the show will finally begin to settle into their final, ultimate pattern. Me thinks Tom should be at these events more often, as he always reveals a lot of interesting little nuggets of information - and I'm sure there are some not so interesting ones, too, but I won't dwell on that possibility."It seems the pool is empty as far as directors go, I guess, and so they're bringing me in. It will be [my first directing gig]. I'm very excited. At this point, I'm only doing one. I think they're waiting to see maybe what it turns out to be."
New Wallpaper at The WB
Thu July 28th 2005 @ 7:45AM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments
There's a new wallpaper of Tom, featuring Smallville's new time of Thursday's at 8:00pm, available over on the Smallville extras page at the WB. The background looks like mud so I'm not sure how many people will actually want to use it!
Tom's Stunt-Double Injured In Fall
Wed July 27th 2005 @ 5:13AM - James - Tom Welling - 7 Comments
According to Canada's eTalk Daily and The Hollywood Reporter, Christopher Sayour, Smallville's stunt coordinator and Tom's primary stunt-double, was injured on Tuesday morning during a 37-foot fall from a tower whilst shooting a sequence for the upcoming season. Described as a "freak accident", Mr. Sayour appears to have been doubling for Tom at the time of the incident. A statement from his family has noted that he received "multiple fractures and internal injuries" in the accident.
You can download the video of eTalk's brief segment, and please keep checking back here for any other news that may develop.
Thanks to Caitlin for the tip and the video!
Tom Snippet in GL
Tue July 26th 2005 @ 10:03PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
I've received unconfirmed word that there is a small mention of Tom in the current issue (August/September) of Girls' Life magazine; however at this time I don't have any more details about what was said, or about whether any pictures were included. In fact I can't even give an absolute guarantee that he's in the magazine at all! Still, it's worth checking that out if you see the issue in your local store.
If you can let me know for sure, and/or pass along the information or a scan, please contact me!
Tom is Engaged ... Oh Sorry, I Meant Engaging
Mon July 25th 2005 @ 8:29PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
That Ausiello fellow (wow, that totally rhymes) is such a nice man. In his TCA Press Tour write-up over at TVGuide.com, Michael Ausiello gave Tom a glowing review.
Aww, Tom made a friend. Although Michael wasn't even at the presentation when Tom was onstage, so his gushing is second-hand - apparently his root canal was more pressing (One day the puns will stop.) on Friday afternoon, and he was forced to miss a couple of hours of the Tour. So Tom was both engaging, and abandoned."Tom Welling, after announcing that James Marsters would be doing six episodes as Brainiac, won critics over with the single most engaging monologue in press-tour history."
The full article is relatively long and boring, it has to be said, and Tom is only mentioned once towards the bottom of the page. Still, that's the link.
Thanks to Dee for passing along the link!
The Message Board is Back - In a Way
Mon July 25th 2005 @ 5:17PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
I'm happy to announce that TomWelling.org is now partnered with the Tom Welling board at Fan Forum, one of the premier forum communities on the web. Alongside the board's moderators, Bency and Katka, I will be using it as this site's official forum, and I encourage anyone who enjoys discussing Tom to sign up. I'll be popping in myself whenever I have the time – possibly not often, but I'll try to make some time, I promise – and I'm looking forward to this opportunity to get to know some of TomWelling.org's visitors a little better.
If you sign up for the forum after following the link from over here, please drop a message in the welcome thread - I'll be making my own introduction there later tonight, and I really don't want to be a loner again!
I've been asked when the message board was coming back a number of times, but there was always something that got in the way. When I was approached about this idea I immediately agreed; what could be better than an established community with one of the friendliest atmosphere's around? For those who used to visit the old forum way back when, it won't be quite the same, but I hope that in this case change will be considered a good thing.
And if all that blatant plugging hasn't already convinced you to register, I doubt anything will!
The Island Shrouded by Fog
Sun July 24th 2005 @ 8:34AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment
As I had expected, The Fog's trailer made its cinema debut this weekend in selected theaters around the US - and as rumoured, it is being shown before The Island. My friend Cindy, an episode reviewer over at KryptonSite, was lucky enough to catch the trailer in Colorado, whereas some people who have seen the movie in other areas were not so lucky.
Unfortunately it pretty much seems to be a crapshoot whether or not you'll get to see it if you venture down to the local multiplex ... but perhaps the risk is worth the potential reward?
Lights! Camera! Action!
Sat July 23rd 2005 @ 7:04PM - James - Tom Welling - 4 Comments
In yet more exciting news from yesterday's TCA Press Tour, it was revealed that Tom will hopefully be directing an episode of Smallville later this season. Tom has mentioned his desire to direct on more than one occasion, and barring any obstacles he should finally get his chance.
There are now a few photos available from The WB's presentation, including the one to your left; however Tom wasn't at the after-party, so let's just say that you'll be unlikely to find any pictures of him at that unless you've somehow managed to warp time and space. I don't blame Tom, though. I hate parties.
Higher Resolution Fog Trailer
Sat July 23rd 2005 @ 5:49AM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments
After a false-start a few days ago, The Fog's trailer is now online, fully authorised by Columbia – unlike last time – and in much higher resolution, at FilmForce. The largest version is a full 50MB of Quicktime goodness, with all the clarity you could wish for; oh fine, you caught me in a lie. I'd like it even bigger than that.
In addition to that, FilmForce also has a few more stills from the movie, two of which feature Tom looking a touch petrified. I can't imagine why.
Two Out of Five Could be Worse ...
Fri July 22nd 2005 @ 11:44PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
Tom was there in 2001. He wasn't in 2002, 2003, or 2004. This year he was again. I'm referring to the TCA's, of course. According to Craig, Tom presented Smallville's segment at the WB's presentation at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour earlier today, and had a lot of big news for the upcoming season; I won't spoil any of that here, though, as I'd just be copying KryptonSite's news anyway. You may as well head over there and read it from the source.
With the potential for this to be Smallville's final season, and with its 100th episode falling mid-way through the season, Tom was finally pushed onto centre-stage again - now I just hope that nobody felt inclined to hook him back off. And that he wasn't wearing a tablecloth again.
Smallville to Premiere September 29th
Fri July 22nd 2005 @ 10:09PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
At the WB's annual Television Critics Association press tour a few hours ago, the network announced their final fall line-up. Surprisingly, Smallville and its thursday night companion, Everwood, will not be premiering until September 29th; that's one week later than had been anticipated, and almost a month later than some of their thursday-night competition.
There should be lots more news from the junket later tonight, so keep checking back here or on KryptonSite for updates.
First Fog Still
Tue July 19th 2005 @ 11:21PM - James - Tom Welling - 5 Comments
The first movie still from The Fog which features Tom is now online over at JoBlo - head over to view it.
The image shows Tom, Maggie, and the boy playing Stevie Wayne's son (I don't know his name, and I feel very ashamed of myself. Honestly.) together in Nick's truck. It's not very revealing of any plot points – unless all they do in The Fog is sit in trucks – and Tom's a little blurred by the wisps of fog in the shot, but it's a start!
The Fog Trailer!
Tue July 19th 2005 @ 4:04PM - James - Tom Welling - 11 Comments
Finally. The French-Canadian website Enprimeur.ca has what appears to be the online debut of The Fog's trailer - and it looks really good! I was dreading the atmosphere-factor, as it was just about the only part of the original movie that made it watchable. The atmospheric tension is so important to a horror movie and thankfully this particular remake appears to have nailed it.
So here's the trailer before I'm smacked for rambling. (Oops! The trailer isn't available right now, so to tide everyone over until it's put back here's the low-quality version.)
If you're at work and can't watch the trailer for a while, hopefully a few screen caps will suffice for the time being; Tom is barely in it, as expected. The only scenes were the already-noted incident in the bedroom, a brief scene in the town with Nick, Elizabeth, and Stevie's young son, Andy, caught in headlights, and Nick screaming at Andy to "grab my hand!" as the fog attacks Stevie's house.
Trailers usually appear online a few days before their cinema release, so anyone going to the cinema this weekend should definitely keep an eye out. Rumours suggest it may accompany The Island.
Small Update to The Fog's Official Site
Tue July 19th 2005 @ 2:41PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
It's not much. In fact if I'm honest, it's barely anything actually. However The Fog's official website has finally received a very small update; when you first enter the site, its splash screen now contains a slightly longer animation complete with the words "In Theaters October 14".
Whilst that has been the assumed release date for quite some time, this is the first confirmation directly from the studio's own website. So only 87 days to go for those lucky people in the United States.
More Fog at Coming Soon!
Tue July 19th 2005 @ 1:14PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
A write-up of Sony's presentation from Comic-Con last Saturday is now available over at Coming Soon! Excitingly, the article both confirms and elaborates on the information that I was given yesterday; in a report that I received from the presentation, I was told that the debut of the movie's trailer would come within the next five to ten days (those five to ten days being from the date of presentation, so somewhere around July 21st to July 26th). However Coming Soon's article is more specific, and suggests that the debut will be this weekend - which of course falls within the five to ten day period, so it may be that they're just placing an educated guess. I still think they're probably right, though ...
So now the question is this: which film opens this coming weekend that would be likely to have The Fog's trailer attached to it? Place your bets! Or, you know, just place a guess in the comments. Both are good.
And for Maggie's sake, let's just hope that the scene of her and Tom in the shower together wasn't cut from the filming schedule - it was one of her main reasons for taking the role!
Oh Trailer, Where Art Thou?
Mon July 18th 2005 @ 6:33AM - James - Tom Welling - 6 Comments
During Saturday's panel at Comic-Con, it was revealed that The Fog's teaser trailer should be released within the next five to ten days; however no other details were given, so the exact time and place is still a mystery. As expected the trailer was premiered during the panel, and by all accounts it was pretty intriguing - though it was lacking in the Tom department, as most things seem to be at the moment. A very brief clip of Tom lying in bed with Maggie Grace was just about the only thing of note, seemingly. I'm questioning whether this bodes well ....
Audio of Q&A at Comic-Con
Sun July 17th 2005 @ 12:09PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment
Coming Soon! is as quick off the mark as ever, having already uploaded an audio file of what The Fog's director, Rupert Wainwright, and one of its stars, Maggie Grace, had to say at Comic-Con yesterday. When asked about Tom, Rupert had this to say:
"One of the things about Tom that suits his role so well, is that he's just this great, all-American guy. He's charming, a great actor, he's got a lot of enthusiasm ... you just want to hang out with him. What's interesting about his role is that it's very different than the Tom Atkin's role, for a couple of obvious, physical reasons. You really have to see the movie, but obviously [Nick and Elizabeth's] relationship is more complex than picking up a hitchhiker: they're old boyfriend and girlfriend. She left town without letting him know, and she moved to New York. He's freaked out about that and has been pining for her. He's really upset, and then when he sees her again she's come back without telling him. So he's freaked out that she disappeared without telling him; she came back without telling him; what's going on? There's a lot of great things going on between them."
The full question and answer session lasts approximately twenty-minutes, and is available as a 29MB MP3 file; however I've also created a smaller MOV file of the sixty-four-second segment about Tom: download audio clip [380KB].
Comic-Con Saturday
Sun July 17th 2005 @ 12:27AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
As I type this, Sony's presentation of The Fog (among other upcoming movies) should be underway at the San Diego Comic-Con; I'm not expecting anything huge to be unveiled about the movie, but if Sony stays true to form there will have probably been a teaser trailer and a clip or two. Whether or not those will make it online is anyone's guess, but in lieu of that there should be some reports from the event available in the next few hours.
However it's now past midnight in the good ol' United Kingdom, and whilst I am expecting a report or two once the presentation is over – in an hour or two, give or take my ability to do accurate math – I don't think I can stay awake! I've done all-nighters many times on behalf of this website, and I was highly tempted to try again this time; however my eyelids are currently propped open with hydraulic lifts, and my feet have already gone to sleep. That situation isn't conducive to writing anything sensible!
If you attended The Fog's panel this afternoon and would like to share your recollection of what was shown and said, please drop a message in my inbox. I'll get back to you once I've woken up in a few hours, and I'll publish your story as soon as I'm conscious enough to do so. Ah, Sunday's ...
Once the Comic-Con weekend is over I have every intention of taking a few days off website duty to get some rest and relaxation. If nothing else I want to make an effort to recharge my batteries for the guaranteed-to-be-busy upcoming months:
Smallville is back on TV screens in September, with its 100th episode celebrations likely to take place in January or early February of next year; The Fog will be hitting cinemas in October; Cheaper By The Dozen 2 is likely to be released in the spring or early summer of 2006; and Tom will quite likely be making the promotional rounds on behalf of all of them ...
I'm exhausting myself just thinking about it! There are days when I really wish I could be a Duracell Bunny.
The Fog's UK Release Pushed Back
Thu July 14th 2005 @ 3:39PM - James - Tom Welling - 4 Comments
In disappointing news for Tom's fans in the United Kingdom, including your friendly (sometimes) neighbourhood webmaster, the Fog's originally planned release date of January 6th, 2006, has now been pushed back to February 23rd. I'm not certain of why that is, but whatever the reason it will mean yet another long wait. Just think, I thought January 6th was bad enough!
Entertainment Tonight Finally Hits Cheaper 2
Wed July 13th 2005 @ 2:54PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment
After a number of delays, Entertainment Tonight finally aired its Cheaper By The Dozen 2 segment last night. If you missed it you shouldn't worry too much, as there really wasn't anything new about Tom; mostly it was just a retread of the clips and comments that were aired a few weeks ago on The Insider, as I'd expected it would be.
With luck there'll be some new interviews with the cast (including Tom, this time!) fairly soon.
Smallville Season Four in the UK
Tue July 12th 2005 @ 10:54AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
According to KryptonSite, the fourth season of Smallville will be available to buy on DVD in the United Kingdom on October 10th - less than a month after its release in the US! That's a big step up from the season three set, which wasn't released in Region 2 format until almost six months after the US got their first look.
If you want to help out this site a little bit, please pre-order your copy through Amazon.co.uk - alternatively, if you don't want to help out this site whatsoever, be sure not to click the link! And of course for those in the US or Canada, you can still pre-order the Region 1 version from Amazon.com or Amazon.ca respectively.
Numerous Updates
Mon July 11th 2005 @ 2:05PM - James - Tom Welling - 6 Comments
I'll start with what may be the most important update: the news switcheroo tool. When reading the news page you now have the option of choosing whether to read every story, or only those relating to Tom or Mark respectively. A link to the tool is provided at the bottom of every news page. The default setting allows you to read every news item, so you won't need to change anything if you're happy with everything as it is.
I chose to provide this option due to some complaints I've been receiving following my posts about Mark. Those complaints have mainly been to state the obvious - that "this is a Tom Welling site!" As the person who's been running it for over three years, I would never have guessed ... What those complaints often seem to forget is that I choose what I'm going to post because, despite everything, this is still my personal fansite. I don't have any help with day-to-day maintenance; I don't have a team of co-webmasters; this is my tribute to Tom, as well as to anything else relating to him that I decide to mention. If you'll pardon the pun, you can't get much more related to Tom than Mark is!
As much as I would love to have power over people, unfortunately I don't. If you feel that I don't "stick to the subject" enough, I can't force you to continue to visit; that's your decision. The best I can do is give you a choice over what you read, and I've now done that. Complaints give me a headache, so any further complaints about this will either be deleted, or returned to sender labelled "D'oh!"
On to other things.
The list of awards that Tom has been nominated for, or won, has been updated to include this year's nominations. I've also updated the fan listing, added two new fan encounters from Tonie and Amanda, and linked-up with two new affiliates. Be sure to pay those a visit, the sites are fantastic.
Teaser For Circling Serita
Sat July 9th 2005 @ 3:38AM - James - Mark Welling - 8 Comments
If you're interested in a first-look at Mark's new movie, Circling Serita (and of course you are - right?), the teaser trailer is now available at the production company's website, Mythicalsluglines.com.
It's short and to the point, but bursting with atmosphere.
As a slight aside, I have a quick question for anyone who would care to answer down in the comments: is it wrong that I'm more excited about seeing Circling Serita and Wrestling than I am about seeing Cheaper By The Dozen 2? I think it's because the first movie left me a little disappointed ...
Video of TRL Behind-the-Scenes
Fri July 8th 2005 @ 11:04AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments
It looks like I managed to get a video of wednesday's TRL after all. As I'm sure everyone will remember, the show went behind-the-scenes of Tom's upcoming movie, Cheaper By The Dozen 2. (I'm so used to following the phrase "Tom's upcoming movie" with the word Fog ... I hope I don't confuse myself.)
Anyway. I'm tangentially challenged, so I'll just get it over and done with. Here's the video clip.
Tom's only in the background of the main part of the segment, wearing a white t-shirt; however the guy sinking down in the water during the title sequence definitely resembles him quite a bit, too. Of course that could just as easily be one of TRL's generic summer graphics, and I wouldn't be any the wiser! I never get to see the show in the UK.
Entertainment Tonight Also Visits Cheaper 2
Thu July 7th 2005 @ 11:34PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
In what seems to be a popular pastime right about now, today's edition of Entertainment Tonight was originally scheduled to include a visit to the set of Cheaper By The Dozen 2. However it now appears that the segment may air on Friday - check local listings for the time and channel.
If you can't catch the show, ETOnline has a short article with a video taken from the segment; the interviews and clips shown appear to be very similar to those featured on The Insider a few weeks ago, and yet again – as if it's a surprise anymore – Tom doesnt seem to be among those interviewed. You can read that article here.
It may not be worth the hassle, but if you can vidcap the show please get in touch.
Behind-The-Scenes of Cheaper By The Dozen 2
Thu July 7th 2005 @ 2:46AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments
On wednesday's edition of TRL, the show went behind-the-scenes of Cheaper By The Dozen 2. The hosts spoke to most of the movie's cast member's, but unfortunately, once again, it seems that Tom was missing from the interview's. He was apparently featured in some of the clips that were shown, though, so it's not a total waste of time if you can catch the repeat airing.
Unfortunately I don't have a video of this one, however I believe it will be repeated at 10:00am EST/PST on thursday for anyone who missed it. If you're on the west coast you might even be lucky enough to catch wednesday's 8:00pm showing. If you do catch it and can share the video (WMV, MPG, or whichever format you have to hand), that would be great.
Happy Wedding Anniversary Tom & Jamie
Tue July 5th 2005 @ 1:48AM - James - Tom Welling - 16 Comments
It's once again that time of year when I turn unashamedly soppy and wish Tom and Jamie a very Happy Wedding Anniversary. I was here to wish them both a very happy day way back on July 5th, 2002, and three years on I still haven't picked up my ball and gone home - the time has passed so quickly that I can barely believe it has been that long.
Traditionally gifts of leather or crystal are given to celebrate a third anniversary; however I suspect that a smelly training shoe or chipped flower vase wouldn't be appropriate! As those are all I have, a simple message will have to suffice. Of course if you would like to leave your own message, please feel welcome to do so in the comments below.
Just as I have in years' past, I would like to wish Tom and Jamie a wonderful day, and all the best for now and the future. I hope that their marriage proves to be blessed with both happiness and longevity.
Comic-Con Encompassed by Fog
Sun July 3rd 2005 @ 7:07PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment
This year's San Diego Comic-Con (running from Thursday July 14th through Sunday July 17th) is scheduled to feature a panel for The Fog on Saturday July 16th, during Sony's feature film presentation. The 90-minute event will feature three of the studio's upcoming movies, beginning at 3:30pm in Hall H of the San Diego Convention Center.
Tom isn't scheduled to appear, unfortunately, however the movie's director, Rupert Wainwright, along with Tom's co-star Maggie Grace, should be there. The chances are pretty good that a trailer and/or clips from the movie will be shown during the panel, so if you're a fan of Tom's this should still be a worthwhile show to attend.
Of course if you do attend, please share your story!
Message from Adam Fox
Sat July 2nd 2005 @ 9:43PM - James - Mark Welling - 4 Comments
Adam Fox, the writer and director of Circling Serita (as well as the actor playing the role of Sean in the movie), was kind enough to contact me today regarding my previous news entry mentioning the film.
Adam wanted to let me know a little more about the film's star, Mark Welling. I'm very happy to pass along a few of Adam's words, and hopefully allow all of us (myself included) to get to know Mark a little better.
Mark sounds like a wonderful person and I wish he, Adam, and the entire cast and crew of Circling Serita, every success."He's not just the brother of Tom Welling, but is without a doubt one of the most hard-working, creative, and interesting people you will ever come across. Mark has taken over as director for every scene I am in as Sean, and has spent countless hours working on getting scenes to perfection; he has done more work than any other actor I have ever worked with. I believe he has found a new calling, and hope that he will pursue that in the future as a writer and producer."
"Mark has also channeled recent events in his own life towards my film, and has turned those events into a positive, productive, energy-driven creative force. Looking back I do not see this film being complete without him."
"Even if the real Serita had never existed in my life, I believe Mark's writings would have inspired the same story and passion."
