Newsarama Interview With Scott Allie
Tue August 16th 2005 @ 5:39PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
Newsarama recently caught up with Scott Allie, the author of The Fog's upcoming graphic novel. The novel is scheduled to be released on October 5th, and can currently be pre-ordered from Amazon.
So, on to the interview. The novel is, as many of you are probably already aware, a prequel to the movie; it's intended to add to the backstory, fleshing it out in a way that wouldn't be possible in a two-hour movie. (I'm only guessing, it could be 90-minutes or even three hours for all I know!)
When asked how closely the remake follows the script of the John Carpenter original, Scott replied:
And of course, as a prequel set some 150 years ago, there is no mention in the story of Nick Castle, Elizabeth Williams, or any of the other living characters in the movie; so why on Earth would a person to consider buying it? Honestly, I'm not sure that I will. But this is the hard-sell courtesy, once again, of Scott:"The script is incredibly close in ways ... You’ll have a scene which serves a totally new purpose in this film, yet there are memorable lines that survived from the original, and scene structures that are the same, despite having different outcomes or plot purposes."
So thar ye have it, mateys! Hmm, I'm never going to try to be a olde worlde sailor again, it hurts my throat and damages listeners' ears. These are, as you'd expect, only brief snippets of the full interview. So visit Newsarama if you'd like to read the rest."The biggest challenge was to let the events of the film remain totally singular, yet create a back-story that was essential to the movie story."
Thanks to Rakumon for the tip!
