More 'Splinter' Stills

Wed November 30th 2005 @ 11:29PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

I'm a huge fan of picture time, and thankfully Warner Bros. have finally released a few more images from what may turn out to be one the best episodes of Smallville's entire series: 'Splinter'. Sure, the huge shadows under Tom's eyes were a little gruesome. And true enough, the sickly pallor would almost certainly have caused him to be mistaken for one of the ghostly sailors had he stumbled back onto the set of The Fog.

But I digress. I enjoyed it in spite of myself, and the pictures are a really nice reminder of how great the episode was. There are seven new images in total; some resemble those that have already been released, but they are very slightly different.

Video of TV Guide Channel Segment

Tue November 29th 2005 @ 9:56AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

I've had this clip sitting around for days, and I'd totally forgotten to upload it. Mea culpa. Back on November 16th I posted about the Kent family from Smallville being featured on TV Guide Channel's TV Families special, and with big thanks to Cindy (once again) here's the clip at long last.

For those of you who are often very busy, I feel your pain! Hopefully I'll have more time soon.

The Fog DVD Cover Art and Pre-Order

Mon November 28th 2005 @ 3:23PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

The Fog is now available for pre-order in a number of different formats over on Amazon.com, and there's also a look at the great cover art for the DVD - I have to admit to being quite impressed, and that doesn't happen very often!

The movie is available in a combined set with the original, 1980 version, as well as in individual full-screen or widescreen formats.

I'm really busy right now, so updates are going to be a little slower than usual. I have a few small things from the last few days that I haven't gotten around to posting up yet, and you should look out for those in the next day or two.

Cheaper By The Dozen 2 Full Trailer

Thu November 24th 2005 @ 5:16PM - James - Tom Welling - 4 Comments

It looks like Yahoo! Movies has a first look at the full trailer for Cheaper By The Dozen 2, which you can view right here. The trailer includes a few new and extended scenes featuring Tom's character, Charlie, including an incident where he appears to have a slight argument with the dock railing; which subsequently gives way, and ... the rest is fairly obvious. It's a dock. With no railing. Yeah.

I'm actually quite happily surprised by this trailer, as it appears that Cheaper By The Dozen 2 may be slightly more enjoyable for me than the first movie ended up being. By more enjoyable I don't necessarily mean that it will be any better, just that I might be able to sit through it without cringing.

Online Copy of Entertainment Weekly Article

Tue November 22nd 2005 @ 2:19PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

The article about Smallville's Thursday night ratings success from this week's issue of Entertainment Weekly, which featured two new pictures of Tom and which I wrote about on Saturday, has now been made available for online readers at EW.com.

The best part by far is that the article contains an unmarred copy of the two-page spread from the magazine; I'd been working on editing the two halves of the picture together myself, but this will save me some hassle. Which is good, as I have a tendency to get bored easily when forced to digitally recreate a man's forearm hair; unfortunately the name Tom Welling doesn't make that particular job any more bearable.

First 100th Episode Party Pictures

Tue November 22nd 2005 @ 6:37AM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

It appears that the British Columbian band March Hare performed at Smallville's 100th episode party a couple of weeks ago, and luckily for us fans they've uploaded a few pictures from the event over on their official website. Only one picture features Tom, and it's not very clear, but hey, at least he looks his usual almost-dapper self.

Although I must point out that the jeans didn't work well with the blazer the first time Tom tried it, so I can't see them working on the fiftieth attempt. Why can't he just slip on a pair of chinos? Clark manages it. I can predict it like clockwork: Tom makes an appearance somewhere; I see the pictures; subsequently, and almost inevitably, I take issue with his wardrobe. I can't help it, I've been spoiled by the Paley Festival and Television Critics Presentation. So near and yet so far.

Tom In The Hollywood Reporter

Mon November 21st 2005 @ 5:38AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

According to KryptonSite, the November 21st edition of The Hollywood Reporter features a picture of Tom, along with WB Network executives Peter Roth and David Janollari, at the recent party to celebrate Smallville's 100th episode. This is the first image – that I know of – to have appeared since the party was held last weekend, but the lack of pictures is quite normal. Usually images from an event like this one are held back until we get closer to the episode's air date, so there are sure to be a few more popping up soon.

If anyone can get a scan of the image from today's (or tomorrow's, depending on your time zone) Hollywood Reporter, please contact me.

Tom's Young and He's Broken a Hip

Mon November 21st 2005 @ 4:32AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

All right, so he's actually on the "Young, Hip Hollywood" list over on MSN Movies, and I just took it a step too far to catch everyone's attention. My bad. I've just woken up and my tact-switch hasn't kicked in yet - but at least I always love waking up to news that Tom has been included on yet another "best of" list! Though I can't help thinking that some of these lists are getting a little redundant.

At least MSN seem to like Tom quite a lot:

"Welling's played Clark Kent on the WB's addictive Smallville for several seasons, his broody good looks meshing well with the tortured soul of the kid who would be Superman. Not content to rule the small screen, though, Welling has a film career that's starting to leap tall buildings, including a starring role in the fall thriller hit The Fog and Cheaper by the Dozen and its forthcoming sequel. Short of kryptonite, we doubt anything can stop him."

One of these days I'll have to make a James-bot that can update this site while I'm unavailable. That or get some helpers to write the news when I'm too busy or unconscious to do it myself. Any takers?

Tom's Jeans Up For Auction

Sat November 19th 2005 @ 11:44AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

This year's Blue Jeans For Genes charity auction, benefitting the National Hemophilia Foundation, kicked off today on eBay, and once again Tom has donated an autographed pair of Diesel jeans directly from the set of Smallville.

Last year Tom's jeans sold for a staggering $1625! Let's hope he beats that this time around.

Inside TV Outtake Images

Sat November 19th 2005 @ 7:10AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

A few weeks ago Allison Mack was featured in Inside TV magazine, in an article that went behind-the-scenes of 'Lexmas'. Now Allison Mack Online has managed to get hold of some high quality outtakes from the shoot for that article; though most of them are of Allison, as you would probably expect, there are also three great shots which feature Tom.

Tabby and the rest of the AMO team do a great job, so be sure to pay them a visit.

Tom in Entertainment Weekly

Sat November 19th 2005 @ 2:22AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

An article in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly talks about the ratings success of Smallville, and prominently features two fantastic new images of Tom. I don't have scans of them myself, however you can take a look at them over on KryptonSite. The pictures appear to have been taken for The Fog, but don't quote me on that one.

Tom's thoughts on Smallville's Thursday night success?

"As long as we stick to what the show was about originally – the mythology of these characters and where we all know they're going to be in the future – there's no way of knowing how far it can go."

I can't argue with that.

'Solitude' Screen Captures

Fri November 18th 2005 @ 2:49PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

I've just finished uploading 518 screen captures from last night's episode of Smallville, 'Solitude', which you can find over in the image gallery. I only started the gallery a couple of weeks ago, and it already contains over 8000 screen caps! And those captures are only from the sixteen episodes that I've capped so far; there are around eighty more episodes to go ... and suddenly the prospect has given me one huge tension headache.

I hope everyone enjoys the caps while I go and attempt to sleep this headache off.

First Cheaper By The Dozen 2 Stills!

Fri November 18th 2005 @ 12:20AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

The first six stills from Cheaper By The Dozen 2 are now available over at RopeofSilicon.com, and the best part is that two of them (three if you count a small portion of his left arm) include Tom's character, Charlie.

See those green shorts he's wearing? Proof positive that Tom looks good in green. Green's the new blue, or so I'm told ... and what's more, it looks like the poor guy is being blinded by the glare again. I can understand why he shouldn't wear sunglasses on Smallville, but come on, he's human this time! Give the man sunglasses.

Video Clip of Cheaper By The Dozen 2 TV Ad

Thu November 17th 2005 @ 6:14AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

What would I do without my happy helpers? With many thanks to Serene, I've got my grubby paws on a clip of the new television advertisement for Cheaper By The Dozen 2. And it begs the question: did anyone else notice that both of Tom's movie roles this year involved driving a boat? It's kismet, I tell ya. And I have little doubt that we'll soon be seeing him in Pirates of the Caribbean 57: We Ran Out of Subtitles.

As an added bonus, every purchase of the Cheaper By The Dozen Special Edition DVD – which is released on November 22nd – will include a coupon for $7.50 off the price of a ticket to see Cheaper 2. So without further ado ... here's the video of the advertisement.

Thanks go out once again to 'Rene!

The Fog DVD Spec

Wed November 16th 2005 @ 11:55PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

I've done a little more snooping, and it appears that there's both good and bad news about The Fog's DVD release: the good is that the movie is definitely scheduled for release on January 24th, 2006, and it will definitely be available in both a PG-13 and an unrated version; the bad is that it looks as though the cinematic PG-13 version will not be available in widescreen format. Those who are squeamish, but want the full, widescreen experience, may be forced into buying the "scary" version ...

According to an official press release by Sony Pictures:

"The Fog will be available in both full screen PG-13 and unrated extended cut widescreen versions on DVD. The extended cut DVD will contain all the features of the PG-13 DVD, along with footage too frightening to be shown in theaters, and a feature commentary from Director Rupert Wainwright. The PG-13 version features three behind the scenes featurettes, deleted scenes, and an optional director commentary. The extended, unrated cut of The Fog will also be available on VHS and UMD."

Both versions include the featurettes Seeing Through The Fog: Remaking A Horror Classic, Whiteout Conditions: The Making of The Fog, and Feeling the Effects of The Fog: Special Effects. Audio will be available in both English and French 5.1 (Dolby Digital); subtitles will also be available in both English and French.

Please remember that technical specifications are subject to change: or in other words, don't shoot the messenger if any of this changes at a later date!

Stills From 'Lexmas'

Wed November 16th 2005 @ 7:55AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Craig has just posted a dozen new stills from 'Lexmas', which is currently scheduled to air on December 8th, over at KryptonSite. Only two of the stills appear to feature Tom, and even those are a little less than impressive: one of them is graced by a beautifully blurred shot of the back of his head, and the other gives us a very in-depth look at his right ear.

And we act like Warner Bros. never give us anything nice!

New Cheaper 2 TV Advertisement

Wed November 16th 2005 @ 6:12AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Over the past couple of days a new ad for Cheaper By The Dozen 2 has been airing across the US; the advertisement includes a few new clips, including one of Tom's character, Charlie, driving a speed boat. I haven't seen the new ad myself, so I'm pondering whether this could have anything to do with the scene from the teaser trailer in which Daddy Dearest (aka Steve Martin) has fun on water skis?!

If anyone can pass along any further information, or even a video of the new ad, that would be great.

More Smallville On TV Guide Channel

Wed November 16th 2005 @ 5:39AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

TV Guide Channel aired a special entitled TV Families on Tuesday night, which featured profiles of a number of well-known – you guessed it – television families. The usual suspects were included, however the most notable was a family that everyone reading this will probably know fairly well: the Kents. A number of clips from Smallville were shown, including a few more short snippets and interviews that appeared to have been recorded during the filming of 'Lexmas'. Tom was once again only shown quite briefly, but at least he got some face time.

Unfortunately I don't have a video of this at the moment, however the show is scheduled to run again on Wednesday night; so with luck someone will be able to snag a clip of it for me then! Please get in touch if you can help with that.

Big thanks go out to Jen for passing along the info.

'Solitude' Preview at TVGuide.com

Wed November 16th 2005 @ 4:43AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

A preview clip from Thursday's episode of Smallville, 'Solitude', is now available over at TVGuide.com. As always the clip could potentially spoil the episode, so don't watch it unless you don't mind knowing what's going to happen.

This clip features Clark, Martha, Jonathan, and the mysterious Professor Milton Fine - a character whom I happen to have fallen in love with (in a purely platonic sense) already.

The Fog DVD Release Date

Wed November 16th 2005 @ 12:11AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

A couple of DVD websites have recently been reporting the release date for The Fog's DVD, but I was just waiting on some confirmation from Sony before announcing anything. From what I've now heard, it does seem likely that The Fog will be released on Region 1 DVD and UMD (for PlayStation Portable, aka PSP) on January 24th, 2006. It currently looks like there will be both Pan & Scan and Widescreen versions, along with a possible (I'm not certain about this one) unrated Director's Cut. All dates and formats are subject to change, so don't bite me if any of this is wrong!

In addition to that, a new Special Edition of Cheaper By The Dozen (The Baker's Dozen Edition) is released on November 22nd, in both Pan & Scan and Widescreen formats. I wonder if that could possibly be a ploy to get more people interested in the sequel ...

Screen Captures for 'Splinter'

Sat November 12th 2005 @ 2:15AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

Earlier today I added 575 screen caps from last night's Smallville, 'Splinter', to the screen captures gallery. The episode was really dark (literally and figuratively) so some of the caps are a little more blurry than I'd have liked, but that can't be helped. In the future I hope to have screen caps from each episode available within 24-48 hours of the first airing; so please remember to keep checking back!

I'm also, slowly but surely, adding screen captures from Smallville seasons one through four. Currently I'm up to episode #1.04, 'X-Ray', and there are now over 5700 screen caps in eleven episode galleries. At this rate there'll be close to 50,000 images by the time I've capped every episode! I think I need to have my head checked.

Tom Donates to "Blue Jeans For Genes" Again

Thu November 10th 2005 @ 5:03PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

Just as he did last year, Tom has again donated a pair of his Smallville-worn jeans to the National Hemophilia Foundation's Annual "Blue Jeans for Genes" Auction. Smallville cast mate Michael Rosenbaum has also donated this year, so let's hope that they both make as good a showing as Tom and Kristin did 12 months ago!

This year's auction will run on eBay from November 19th through to November 29th; I don't have any more details at the moment, but as soon as I do I'll post them up. Thanks go out to Paul Kelly for passing along the news.

Preview of 'Splinter'

Thu November 10th 2005 @ 4:55PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

A 90-second preview scene from tonight's episode of Smallville, 'Splinter', is available over at TVGuide.com. Tom's only shown at the very end of the scene, and it's pretty spoilerific (as the preview clips tend to be), so only watch it if you don't mind knowing what's going on!

My guess? All is not quite what it seems to be.

Season Five Screen Caps

Tue November 8th 2005 @ 6:49PM - James - Tom Welling - 6 Comments

After about fifteen months of being gallery-less (that's probably not a word), I've finally decided to add a gallery-of-sorts back to TomWelling.org. I took down the original, full gallery, because it was just too much work for someone as busy – and frequently of the ill persuasion – as myself; not to mention that I don't like to do things unless I can do them properly! None of that has changed, so I still have no intention of bringing back a full gallery like the one that was here before.

But having said that, screen captures are a different story: they're quick, easy, and perfect for a sufferer of lazyitis!

So without further ado, here are over 3000 screen captures from the first six episodes of Smallville's fifth season. You can use them however you like, and all I ask is that you credit TomWelling.org if you do use them for anything. And remember that hotlinking is a huge no-no!

Smallville on TV Guide Channel

Mon November 7th 2005 @ 8:42PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

The current edition of TV Guide Channel's The 411 showed a short behind-the-scenes from 'Lexmas', Smallville's first Christmas-themed episode, which is currently scheduled to air at the beginning of December. Tom was, once again, only interviewed briefly, however he summed up the show quite nicely when asked what makes viewers keep coming back week after week:

"I think the fact that we have action, drama and comedy, all in one show: we have explosions, we have visual effects, we have special effects ... there's no other show that does what we do."

He forgot that people watch because he's in it! Perhaps that revelation wouldn't be very diplomatic of him, though. Anyway, you can download the clip to see for yourself. Thanks to Cindy for the video!

'Exposed' Screen Captures

Sun November 6th 2005 @ 12:33AM - James - Tom Welling - 7 Comments

This is a trial run of sorts, as it's so long since this site had a full gallery that I'm not sure how much of a hit it'll take if I post up hundreds of images ...

So to the test: I've set up a small (that's speaking relatively) gallery of approximately 450 screen captures from 'Exposed', last week's episode of Smallville. You can view those right here. I went a bit crazy and took something like one screen cap per second of screen time; the way I see it, there's no point in setting a test unless you're really putting things to the test!

Right now I have no plans to bring back a full gallery, but hey, I've done stranger things than change my mind. It all comes down to time. Building a gallery is so time-consuming, and at this point I would rather spend more time finding news than grubbing for images.

WGN Goes Behind-the-Scenes of 'Exposed'

Fri November 4th 2005 @ 5:52PM - James - Tom Welling - 4 Comments

Last night's edition of Chicago's WGN News At Nine included a brief, five-minute behind-the-scenes feature for 'Exposed'. Most of the segment was, as expected, devoted to John Schneider and Tom Wopat; however the Tom with the Welling at the end was shown briefly in a couple of interview segments from his press tour for The Fog. The quotes were nothing new, unfortunately.

So anyway, John's car collection was given a vast majority of the screen time - or more specifically, his General Lee. Which he tried to teach the interviewer, Dean Richards, to jump into with all the grace of a Duke. And, err, Dean dented the car's door. Oops!

And here for your viewing pleasure – finally, after hours upon hours of patiently waiting for a partially corrupted file to encode properly – is the video.

Seen 'Exposed'? Then Why Not Discuss

Thu November 3rd 2005 @ 11:07PM - James - Tom Welling - 7 Comments

Tonight's episode of Smallville, 'Exposed', will air in a few hours, and as an excuse to show this picture I thought I'd post up a small reminder. I'll take any excuse to show this picture! Poor Clark looks hugely uncomfortable ...

A special reunion; yet another first for ol' Clarkie; something that possibly isn't a first for Lois; the list of reasons to watch this episode is almost endless. I think it will be a really good episode, and I'd love to see what everyone else thought after the show has finished. The best place to discuss it is over on the message board, but failing that I'm sure the comments section will work just as well.

Another Old(ish) Radio Interview

Wed November 2nd 2005 @ 3:43PM - James - Tom Welling - 5 Comments

Transport yourself back to Friday, October 14th; the day that The Fog burst onto screens with much screeching aplomb. And if it weren't for Tom, may very well have been a bomb ... heh, irreverent rhyming is something that I don't do anywhere near often enough. Right, anyway. Go back to October 14th. And set the scene in Houston, Texas, on 104 KRBE with Atom & Maria.

And that's pretty much the end of the story. Well, except for the link to the interview.

Tom had some very interesting stories to tell about his antics on-set; my delusi - make that illusions are shattered! Tom does mean things to his co-stars.

During filming of The Fog, poor DeRay Davis ended up with cell phone problems after Tom "took his phone one time and erased everything on it." Mon Dieu! And Michael Rosenbaum ... well. As far as Tom's concerned, "If he wasn't so funny I'd have killed him by now." But instead he gave him a Vaseline handshake, which I'm pleased to say qualifies for the book of "James might do that." However I would probably be more likely to use paint.

Oh, and they discuss crazy fan sites. Eh, I can't be bothered to argue the patently obvious: I'm nuts. Though I do take issue with the notion that Tom's fan sites will do absolutely anything for him. I don't care whether his life depends on it, I'm not going to say that I thought The Fog was a fantastic movie!

Edit: And there are two more! Salt Lake City's 97.1 ZHT also interviewed Tom for The Fog, and you can find the three parts of that interview down at the bottom of this page, filed under "W". And The Buckhead Show on Portland's Z100 interviewed him right here.

Ouchies, Ma Head Hurts!

Tue November 1st 2005 @ 5:09PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

And no, I don't get drunk or deliberately headbutt things. This headache is brought to you by three hours of sleep, a few perplexing emails, and the number four.

Unfortunately (though not for me, as it gives me some rest!) the news about Tom has been very slow over the past few days, and that lack of news has lead to a small number of emails and comments asking where I've got to. Some were even hoping that I haven't forsaken the site and all of its loyal visitors! I couldn't help it; as touching as it is to be missed, I found the emails both amusing and a little exasperating in their prematurity.

In fact my fit of insane laughter almost caused a cerebral infarction. Hence the headache.

For now the news is in a limbo-like phase that always happens just after the start of a new TV season or the release of a new movie: there's the mad rush of promotion in the run-up, a lot of "how well is it doing?" for a week or two afterwards, and then - then I finally get to take a nap! Yet fear not! With Cheaper By The Dozen 2 arriving in theatres in around seven weeks, I have little doubt that I'll have plenty to write about again soon. Perhaps I'll even survive the next bout of mass hysteria without resorting to NoDoz.
