'Vengeance' Preview
Tue January 31st 2006 @ 7:54AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments
Ah, long weekends. Gotta love those. AOL Television's preview for this week's episode of Smallville, 'Vengeance', was posted a few days ago while I was enjoying a bout of lazyitis; but it's better late than never, right? The clip features Tom-as-Clark looking all down in the dumps about the events from 'Reckoning', and barely containing his anger when Lana starts to be annoying. You dumped him, you silly girl! Making him cry is completely unreasonable behaviour when you won't even play in the barn any more.
You can either view the video in Windows Media format, or download it in Quicktime format.
Cosmopolitan Online Exclusives
Mon January 30th 2006 @ 12:46PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment
As if the quotes in the magazine (which you can read here, if you haven't already) weren't enough, Cosmopolitan has posted up a few online exclusive quotes from Tom and the other "Fun Fearless Males".
Most of these quotes are information that Tom has recounted before, but it's still nice to see them in his words. One of the more interesting quotes – from where I'm sitting – came on the subject of making relationships work within the constraints of Hollywood:
That seems like a good plan to me, even if Tom does make it sound a little like a see-saw. Sit Tom and I on opposite ends of a see-saw and I'm telling ya, I'm going flying ..."When you have to spend time away from the person you love, it's difficult. But you have to adjust and accept that it's part of your life. We all have time constraints, we all have jobs; you just have to balance it."
Stills From 'Vengeance'
Fri January 27th 2006 @ 11:26PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments
Warner Bros. has released a few stills from next week's episode of Smallville, 'Vengeance'. The images feature Tom Welling and next week's guest-star, Denise Quinones, who plays Maya, the "Avenging Angel". The episode looks to be a great a follow-up to yesterday's powerful 100th episode.
You can find the images right about here, and on a shallow note, Tom can really work a denim jacket.
A Touching Sentiment
Fri January 27th 2006 @ 12:41PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments
I guess you can't keep spoilers a secret for long; though I will give advance warning that you shouldn't read any further if you still don't know which character died in 'Reckoning'.
In a new article on Zap2it, the actor in question (this is too much fun for me, it really is - let me know when it starts to get boring so that I can politely ignore you) notes that of all the cast members, they'll probably miss Tom, "who has gone from relative unknown to certifiable star in Smallville's five seasons," the most:
I'll be waving goodbye to so many old friends this year. I'm scared my arm might fall off."We're peers in many respects, but when you really get down to it, the relationship you see on Smallville is very much like the relationship we have."
'Reckoning' Screen Captures
Fri January 27th 2006 @ 12:11PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments
I know that I predicted a larger number of screen captures from 'Reckoning' than I'd been able to grab from the last two episodes, but this is ridiculous! I've just uploaded (and it took a while) 966 screen captures of Tom from last night's big 100th episode of Smallville.
It was such a bittersweet episode. I'll go away and have a good cry now.
Finally - Spoiler Images From 'Reckoning'
Fri January 27th 2006 @ 2:28AM - James - Tom Welling - 6 Comments
I've been a good boy, and held out on posting these for almost a month; they seemed to be everywhere, and I only just managed to contain myself! There were, if I'm completely honest, a few occasions when I almost slipped.
But now the time has finally come, and I've just added fourteen new images from 'Reckoning', which feature a very sad Clark in his Fortress of Solitude with ... heh, I still won't spoil that part. Some people may not have seen the episode yet!
Strangely, the scene in these photos didn't make the final cut of the episode (I won't see it myself for an hour or two), which is a shame. Nonetheless, the images were and continue to be very telling about which character met their fate in last night's episode. My guess is that the episode overran its 60-minute timeslot, and this scene wasn't considered necessary to the final story. Cut scenes or no cut scenes, the character is still much like the proverbial door nail ...
Party Like It's Your 100th Birthday!
Fri January 27th 2006 @ 2:00AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments
Which means you probably won't really party all that much, but still. Do what you can. If nothing else I'm sure we can all join Tom in raising our water glasses ...
A few hours ago I made a post about tonight's big 100th episode of Smallville, 'Reckoning', where you can go to discuss the episode, spoilers and all. Whether you liked the episode, absolutely loved it, or even loathed it, that's the location to be at. This, on the other hand, is party central! Even if the episode turned out to be a little underwhelming for you, this is still a milestone, and everyone has their story to tell about how they became a fan of both Tom, and the show. If the 100th episode isn't a good time for reminiscing, I don't know when is!
I'll start the ball rolling:
I'm incredibly sad and pathetic, and have nothing better to do than watch TV and surf the 'net. It was January 2002. The New Year was as uninviting as ever. And then something happened: I turned on Channel 4 and promptly became apoplectic: how dare they have started this brilliant new show ten minutes before I deigned to switch the TV on! I'd missed the beginning of the Pilot, and much sadness followed. But I got over it, and in April 2002 I wandered on to KryptonSite and Smallville News for the first time.
The world was such a different place, and the bestest, most amazingly wonderful and fantabuloso Tom Welling website (sorry, please smack me before I get too carried away with hyperbole) was as yet nowhere to be seen. Sometimes I slap myself for ever having started it to begin with ... but start it I did, in May 2002. And that's how we get to now. Smallville has been on the air for just over four years and three months, and TomWelling.org – in one form or another – has been along for the ride for three years and eight months. And I'm not done yet!
Tonight on Smallville: Centennial Shockers
Thu January 26th 2006 @ 11:25PM - James - Tom Welling - 23 Comments
It's finally here ... all right, so there are a few hours left, but who's counting? I see. I've just been informed that everybody is counting, and that I'm not helping in the slightest.
So I'll just leave it at this: Enjoy! And after you've enjoyed, why not drop by and leave your comments about an episode that will – if the publicity is to believed – ensure that Smallville will never be the same again!
Variety Profiles Tom
Thu January 26th 2006 @ 3:20PM - Cindy - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
The top entertainment news periodical, Variety, published a profile of Tom in today's online edition. The piece has some new quotes from Tom, including typically evasive comments on a certain film role he didn't get, the possibility of a sixth season and shooting other projects this past summer.
The article also has nice quotes about Tom from series producers Miles Millar and Al Gough. I especially liked this one from Al:
To see more articles on Smallville just visit Variety's "Hot Topics" section in its online edition. (Just remember to click on the "Read this Article for Free" link so you won't have to register.)"He could be a terrific romantic comedy lead. You see it sometimes when he and Lois have scenes together, that sort of Cary Grant quality that's very light and funny. But you never see it in Clark Kent because he's just too earnest."
Thanks to RakuMon for pointing me to the article.
One More New 'Reckoning' Image
Thu January 26th 2006 @ 6:10AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
In anticipation of the episode's premiere this evening, the WB has released one more image from Smallville's milestone 100th episode. The image shows Clark and Lana, doing something ... interesting. I'll leave it at that. Hugging in the barn is so 2005.
There isn't long to wait now!
Hollywood Reporter Celebrates Smallville Milestone
Thu January 26th 2006 @ 5:55AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
In celebration of the show's 100th episode, which airs on the WB later today, today's online edition of The Hollywood Reporter has a really nice, in-depth look back at how Smallville was created, how it has fared over the past five years, and, more importantly, what may be to come in the future.
Smallville has proven itself to be one of Warner Brothers' most important assets, and according to this article has made more than $100 million in DVD sales alone.
Of course the show's executive producers can't always be right: Mike Tollin, in thinking back to the casting process for Smallville, notes that "When Tom Welling walked into the casting office, all we had was a tape where he played the cute pizza boy in [the 1997 movie] Chasing Amy, I think it was."
I don't think it was, but I'll cut him some slack for mixing up "Chasing" and "Judging" Amy, just this once. It is a special occasion, after all.
The Fog is the DVD of the Week
Wed January 25th 2006 @ 11:31PM - Cindy - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
As most Tom fans are no doubt aware, The Fog DVD was released in the US yesterday. Perhaps inexplicably (which I suppose is my favorite word today), it looks like the film made it as MTV.com's top DVD of the week. The MTV feature showcases nine clips, including a "Making Of" featurette and a behind-the-scenes look at creating one particular stunt.
Aside from that one exclusive behind-the-scenes clip, there isn't anything there that's new. If you don't mind putting up with the commercials that play in between each clip it is still probably worth checking out.
Okay, so maybe this is not much of a story but it's always worth mentioning any website that features Tom on their home page. Maybe it's no wonder that MTV made it the DVD pick of the week. Who wouldn't want to feature a shirtless Tom?
Tom One of In Touch Weekly's "Hottest Hunks"
Wed January 25th 2006 @ 8:17PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
In the new issue of In Touch Weekly, which is scheduled to hit stores on Friday (although you may find it sooner), Tom is listed alongside the usual suspects of Jared Padalecki, Wentworth Miller, and Josh Holloway (to name a few) in their feature about the "Hottest Hunks on Television".
The quotes in the short article, and the image that accompanies it, are all at least a couple of years old, which is a pity. Still, it's great news for Tom - remember to pick up your copy!
100th Episode Page
Wed January 25th 2006 @ 5:54PM - Cindy - Tom Welling - 1 Comment
Over at the WB [So long, old friend!] they've put together a special page for tomorrow night's milestone 100th episode, 'Reckoning'. There is a lot of content up there that may look familiar (or inexplicably recycled, depending on how generous you're feeling) including image galleries, video interviews, poster downloads, episode clips and the trailer.
However, probably the best thing is a very nice photo of Tom in an image gallery for the 100th episode party.
Thanks to Sue for pointing me to the page!
'Reckoning' Reviews Coming In
Wed January 25th 2006 @ 4:40PM - Cindy - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
Fortunately, or unfortunately (depending on whether you like spoilers) Now Playing magazine has posted a nearly spoiler-free review of tomorrow night's pivotal 100th episode, 'Reckoning'. Despite the reviewer thinking that the plot was "contrived", she had some very nice things to say about the episode and some especially nice things to say about Tom's performance:
Even though it's not really a review, over on TV Guide's "Ask Ausiello" column, he had this to say about the episode:"As an actor, Welling has come a long way from the first season. The episode puts Clark on an emotional rollercoaster, and Welling hits every high and low with precision."
It sounds like some great TV will be happening tomorrow night, and Tom will be turning in a terrific performance. I know I wouldn't dream of missing this one."Watch the episode because it's one of the best hours of TV this season – and I'm not even a big Smallville fan."
Thanks to Sue for telling me about the Ausiello column!
A Few More 'Reckoning' Preview Images
Wed January 25th 2006 @ 12:37AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
There are only two more days to go! And that means there are two more days until I can post all of the super-spoilery images at my disposal without feeling guilty ...
For now, the few images that I've just added will have to suffice. They're all from a scene that has already been well and truly spoiled for a lot of people, so they're probably safe.
Tom Is TV.com's "Hottest Male"
Tue January 24th 2006 @ 3:41AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments
Do we all remember TV.com's little voting party for the best shows and stars of 2005? No? Deary me ...
I do, and so did Cindy and KalKai, who thankfully spotted the results of the voting before I did. Tom was nominated for "Hottest Male Actor", and thanks to Tom's multitude of fans he won the category with 50% of the total vote! Runner-up Wentworth Miller trailed with 15%, which is just far too sad and tragic for words to express ...
In addition, Smallville won the "Best Science-Fiction" category with 51%. Battlestar Galactica rolled in at second place with 20% of the votes.
Woohoo! Ahem.
Wrestling Trailer
Sun January 22nd 2006 @ 9:18PM - James - Mark Welling - 3 Comments
Almost eighteen months after the movie wrapped principal photography, and following a battle against some serious post-production problems (documented on Spark Weekly), the trailer for Mark's first movie, Wrestling, is finally available.
It looks like the cast and crew had a lot of fun on this one. I just hope it's not another movie that depresses me! Although, having said that, I'll take a good film with a depressing storyline over a terrible film that depresses me because it's unbearably and unwatchably awful ... sometimes it's difficult to be optimistic, but on this occasion I think my optimism will be rewarded.
Thanks to Mark for passing along the trailer.
Entertainment Weekly Grades 'Reckoning'
Sat January 21st 2006 @ 11:24PM - Cindy - Tom Welling - 3 Comments
Over on Sweet, Ian posted the text of EW's capsule review of the upcoming 100th episode of Smallville, 'Reckoning':
As if I wasn't already really looking enough forward to this! I don't know about you, but I think this fangirl is going to need a hanky too. Can anyone tell me why it isn't Thursday yet?"Despite a few too many Kids Gone Wild! kryptonite stories, Smallville is satisfyingly taut and tense. And with this milestone episode, the saga progresses, starting with a pivotal turn in the oft-frustrating Clark/Lana affair, and ending with a poignant reworking of an essential, tragic beat in Clark's boy-to-man-of-steel transition. Bring your hankies, fanboys."

Another 'Reckoning' Preview ... And More
Sat January 21st 2006 @ 10:51PM - James - Tom Welling - 6 Comments
AOL Television has posted up a new preview clip for Smallville's 100th episode, 'Reckoning'. The clip includes a couple of extended scenes, in addition to those featuring Clark, Lex and Lana which were already shown in a previous preview trailer. You can view the video in Windows Media format, or download it in Quicktime format.
And here's another picture of a certain Mr. Tom Welling from the 100th episode party, just to shake things up a little. Please don't repost this picture anywhere else without asking me first; these pictures weren't easy to find!
Tom on ET On MTV
Sat January 21st 2006 @ 5:05AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
Tom was apparently shown in a brief interview on Friday night's edition of ET On MTV, speaking about 'Reckoning', Smallville's 100th episode which airs next Thursday. The interview, by the sounds of it, was from the 100th episode party back in November. Unfortunately I don't expect to get a clip of this one (unless somebody can help with that?), and the show doesn't appear to be repeated over the weekend, which kinda sucks.
Nevermind. I'm sure Smallville will be all over the entertainment news shows next week, in the run-up to Thursday. Keep those eyes peeled, and please let me know if you spot anything that might be newsworthy!
'Lockdown' Screen Captures
Fri January 20th 2006 @ 10:03AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment
Curious. I thought Tom was quite heavily featured in this episode, and yet the screen cap count is once again fairly low. Ah well, I did the best I could, and there are 403 screen captures from this one.
However, I have a sneaky suspicion that Tom may not be lacking from next week's episode: 'Reckoning'. The 100th episode, after which nothing will be the same if the trailers are to be believed. I dunno though; I reckon (that wasn't a deliberate pun, but I couldn't let it pass without mention) Clark will still wear red and blue and race around a lot, so none of the important things will be missing.
More 'Lockdown' Stills
Fri January 20th 2006 @ 4:49AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
The WB has released eleven more stills from last night's episode of Smallville, 'Lockdown'.
Some of them feature Clark and Chloe, investigative reporters extraordinaire; a few of them feature Clark and Lana doing that sink-plunger thing with their faces; and one of them shows the luckiest guy on the planet with a painful injury for the third time in three episodes. Some are spoilery if you haven't seen the episode yet, and some aren't - so enter at your own risk!
Tonight's Episode: 'Lockdown'
Thu January 19th 2006 @ 11:56PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
Tonight it's time for a 'Lockdown' on Smallville, when Tom Welling's Clark Kent will once again have to save the day: but will everyone get out unscathed, and will any of the events in this episode be a set up for the pivotal action in next week's big 100? I guess we'll just have to watch it to find out!
After the episode is over why not leave your comments about the episode: you can do that in the comments, or on the discussion forum. And of course, barring any problems, I'll have screen caps up some time in the next day or two.
Clip Online for Tomorrow Night's Episode!
Wed January 18th 2006 @ 8:31PM - Cindy - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
Tomorrow night's episode, 'Lockdown', wasn't one I was especially looking forward to, but going from a clip of it which was posted on Sweet, (viewable on YouTube) I think I've changed my mind. Despite this episode looking like it's more Lex – and Lana – centric, I just want to remind everyone that they should tune in to watch Tom do his stuff.
He is wonderful in the 'Lockdown' snippet, and it looks like things are really building towards next week's pivotal 100th installment, 'Reckoning'.
Even More from the TCA
Tue January 17th 2006 @ 6:12PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
As well as KryptonSite's update earlier today, Now Playing has also added the second part of their recap of Tom's presentation at the Television Critics Association Press Tour.
There are a few fun anecdotes, though Craig has already covered a lot of it. I especially like the part where Tom relates a story about his driver asking him when he'll be flying ... if I were Tom, I'd have been flying straight out of the car door! Of course it would hurt if the car was still moving at the time.
More TCA Stuffies
Tue January 17th 2006 @ 10:40AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
Craig has just updated his write-up of Tom's little appearance at the TCA's yesterday, over at KryptonSite. There's some really great information in there. On the subject of directing an episode of Smallville later this season, Tom pulled out the self-deprecation again:
Ouch. Don't worry, Tom, I'll be watching. Though I do that every week, so it probably doesn't mean a whole lot. Tom was also asked whether he's going to try and make another movie this year, and Tom replied that:"We have to realize that they're really scraping the bottom of the barrel at this point."
And keep me busy! I need a break ... can Tom just go into hibernation for six months, please? I'm not above pitiful begging."I'm going to try. I enjoy the process very much, and we're going to do what we can to keep me busy."
There are still no pictures from the event, and predictably Tom didn't attend the WB's All-Star Party. So the wait continues!
Tom at The WB's TCA Day
Tue January 17th 2006 @ 12:36AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
According to KryptonSite and Now Playing, Tom – as I had expected he probably would – turned up earlier today for the WB's presentation at the Television Critics Association's Winter Press Tour. Unsurprisingly, most of what he had to say was about Smallville's upcoming 100th episode, and most of it was pretty spoiler-packed. Here's a safe excerpt:
There should be more information available from the press conference in the coming days, and perhaps even some photos. The presentations don't normally have very many photographers present, so we'll see how that turns out. On the other hand, the WB's TCA party will be held later tonight. If Tom turns up to that there should be plenty of photos available tomorrow. Either way, I need to get some sleep!"I think from this episode on, this show is going to be very different from what it’s been in the past. And I also think we’re finally going to get to what I believe the audience wanted the show to be."
100th Episode Updates
Mon January 16th 2006 @ 8:53PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments
The French Smallville web site Smallville Hero has a preview video clip from Smallville's fast-approaching 100th episode, 'Reckoning'. The clip is just over three-minutes-long, and is in Quicktime format. Be extremely careful if you're spoilerphobic, because this one features some of the episode's major plot points! For those on dial-up, I've also shrunk the clip down to a more manageable size, which you can download right here.
Just as excitingly, it appears that one or two photos from Smallville's 100th episode party are finally trickling out. I recently stumbled upon the nice picture of Tom that I've posted to the left, and there will probably be some more fairly soon; hopefully they won't focus on yet another fashion faux pas from dear ol' Tom: this time he was wearing New Balance training shoes with his blazer ...
Tom in Sunday Times TV Guide
Sun January 15th 2006 @ 11:12AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
I want to move to Australia! Well, aside from the heat; I think it's too warm in Britain half the time. Anyone who's visited Britain will know how absurd that really is ...
But to the point. The TV guide in today's edition of Australia's Sunday Times features a short article about Tom's life and career. It's all old stuff – and incidentally, Tom gives his feelings on being a little older than he should be when playing a teenager – but some of it is still interesting.
For instance, Tom would like to play "a scruffy, ugly guy, something different, to stretch me." This intrigues me for two reasons: firstly, ugly is nigh impossible without heavy prosthetics. And for another thing, if you stretch him any more he won't fit through the doorway! Which isn't to say he wouldn't make a great crazy psycho killer; some want to see him in a superhero movie, and I happen to think that's a great idea: let him play The Joker. He can do insane with resounding aplomb, and the smile wouldn't exactly be a problem.
Moreover, Tom notes that he wasn't devoted to modelling. I like that. I find that becoming too devoted to something can make people highly irritating. Even I have my limits; albeit those limits are somewhere out near Pluto.
Thanks Erica!
Stills from 'Lockdown'

The WB has released a few preview photos from next Thursday's new episode of Smallville, 'Lockdown'. As the run-up to the big 100th episode, this one should be really important and set up some pretty major plotlines; luckily the images are only a little spoilery.
And speaking of that big 100th ... I'm getting so excited I could screech! Or maybe I'll just clap my hands a little and retain my self-respect.
The Fog Screen Captures
Sat January 14th 2006 @ 8:41PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments
I just can't help myself. I should be resting, but instead I go capping crazy on the The Fog. I'm a terrible patient.
Anyway, I've uploaded over 850 screen captures to a new gallery for Tom's recent movie, The Fog, which is scheduled to be released on Region 1 DVD on January 24th. Enjoy!
Will the Cycle be Broken?
Fri January 13th 2006 @ 4:25PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments
It's been over a year since Tom has made any major public appearances, but it looks like his inclusion on Cosmo's "Fun Fearless Males" list for 2006 may be about to break that vicious cycle: assuming, of course, that nothing else breaks it before then!
In a few weeks Cosmopolitan will be hosting their "Fun Fearless Males" Awards Party, and it appears that Tom is currently scheduled to appear at the event. Appearances are always subject to change, but things definitely look good at the moment. I hope to have more information about the exact date and venue nearer the time. For now I'm just happy in the knowledge that Tom might not be in hiding for much longer! And as he'll be at a Cosmo party, he might be more careful when choosing his outfit. Just saying.
Tom One of Cosmo's "Fun Fearless Males"
Fri January 13th 2006 @ 12:57PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments
In its February issue, out soon with Beyonce on the cover, Cosmopolitan names its "Fun Fearless Females and Males" of 2006: and Tom has made the grade alongside Matt Dillon, Jesse Metcalfe, and "Fun Fearless Male of the Year", Patrick Dempsey!
Here are a few excerpts from Tom's interview in the magazine:
I can definitely relate to liking people who speak their mind, although some people tend to get themselves into trouble when they tell you what they really think! I'm a case in point. And what's that about Tom going cliff diving? Yikes ...As his TV character Clark Kent, Tom Welling is able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. But this year, the 28-year-old Smallville star (and former Cosmo model) made a big jump of his own when he became a full-fledged movie star, appearing in the horror flick The Fog and Cheaper By The Dozen 2. Not only did we get to see a whole new side of the actor, but it also gave us more opportunities to drool over his rocking bod.
He’s fearless on the set: "On the [Smallville] season finale, a helicopter hovered five feet off the ground, and I jumped off it into the snow. Then I pulled my body back up into it while the blades were going. You don’t get to do that stuff on a courtroom drama."
How Superman is rubbing off on him: "I once jumped off cliffs on the coast of Italy, 50 feet into the water. I'm adventurous, I love pushing the limits and doing things like that."
Biggest turn-on: "Women who are confident and have a good understanding of who they are. When you ask a woman a question, you want to hear what she really thinks about something, not necessarily what she thinks you want to hear."
Love at first sight: "My wife and I met in a coffee shop in Miami. She was so beautiful that I had to talk to her. I'd never been that forward before, but something about her made me throw caution to the wind. I went up to her and used the line 'I think I know you.'"
Hopefully I'll have even more information about Tom's inclusion in this issue soon; if you receive the issue before I find out more about it, please get in touch.
'Fanatic' Screen Captures
Fri January 13th 2006 @ 10:07AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
I've just added over 450 screen captures from yesterday's episode of Smallville, 'Fanatic', to the image gallery. This was another episode without very much of Tom in it – if anyone deserves a break, he probably does – but the importance of the scenes more than made up for the amount of screen time. If you'd like to discuss the episode with other fans, visit the 'Fanatic' discussion.
Now I hope to get a weekend of rest per the orders of my dear doctor; I couldn't leave the screen caps unmade, could I?
Spot the Difference
Thu January 12th 2006 @ 8:08AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments
So, what's the difference between a Cheaper By The Dozen made in 1950, and a Cheaper By The Dozen 2 made in 2005? Nope, it's not Steve Martin or a plethora of pretty bad jokes: as far as The Times-Dispatch's Cynthia McMullen was concerned, the highly notable difference was that "the 1950s family didn't have a cleavage-happy neighbor like Carmen Electra."
Wait, that looks wrong. I think I quoted the wrong sentence. Ah, found the one I was looking for:
Much better. And much like me, Cynthia seemed to enjoy Cheaper By The Dozen 2; I can't imagine why ..."On the other hand, the 1950s family probably didn't have a hunka-hunka burning cuteness à la Tom Welling, either."
'Fanatic' Preview
Wed January 11th 2006 @ 4:22AM - James - Tom Welling - 4 Comments
A preview for Thursday's brand new episode of Smallville, 'Fanatic', is now available for viewing over at TV.com.
The video itself is funny enough – in a tragi-comic way – already, however the accompanying caption reads: "Chloe is reluctantly on the receiving end of an awkward discussion regarding Clark's sexual inadequacies." For me, it looks like a discussion of the exact opposite ... but what would I know. I've never seen Mallrats.
Oh, and a little about me! I finally saw my doctor yesterday about the "injuring myself" incident from a few days ago; his not-so-unexpected advice was to rest and not move around much until the pain and spasming both go back to where they came from. And make myself hopped up on painkillers. So if I disappear at all, it's because I'm following doc's orders. If I don't, it means I'm ignoring him. Which would be entirely typical.
'Reckoning' Stills

A few stills from 'Reckoning', Smallville's 100th episode, have recently been released, and I've added them to the 'Reckoning' stills gallery. You may have seen a few other images from the episode circulating over the past week; however those are either hugely spoilerific, or they're fake scenes intended to lead everyone astray.
Either way, I wouldn't want to potentially spoil anyone quite that badly for such an important episode, and I'm fairly sure that Warner Bros. would also prefer it to be kept secret, if possible! With that said, I'll probably post the other images fairly soon when a little more is known about the episode.
Tom In Star Magazine
Mon January 9th 2006 @ 10:41AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
That would be the current, January 11th issue of Australia's Star Magazine, which is probably not hugely different to the more well-known American magazine of the same name; they're both celebrity news and gossip magazines, so they must have some things in common besides the name! This time Tom was lucky enough to squeeze in a short article containing nothing worse than a good-natured (I think) joke about his lips, so that's something - oh, and the editor seemed to want Tom to lose his clothes, too.
Most of the quotes, with one or two exceptions, seem to be at least a few months old, however there are still some really fun comments and anecdotes:
Thanks Erica!"With all his luck, Tom's not worried by the so-called 'Superman Curse,' which has allegedly seen a string of actors meet unhappy fates. 'If there really is a jinx out there, there's nothing I can do about it, so I don't worry.' And with a slew of roles under his belt, a happy marriage and a talent for dispatching androids - the curse wouldn't stand a chance."
Watch Out for Tom in 2006
Sat January 7th 2006 @ 12:12AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
I know I've said it before, but Teen People really seems to like Tom at the moment. He's now on their list of Guys to Watch Out for in '06, and for once he's first on the list! Not that the lists seem to have any real order, but at least you don't need to log in to see this one.
Here's what Regan Fletcher had to say about Tom:
I often get emails telling me how "hot" Tom is. They make him sound like a radiator ..."Wow. There aren't enough minutes in the day to talk about why Tom Welling is the hottest guy alive. He's the textbook definition of tall, dark and handsome. With his new movie Cheaper by the Dozen 2 out, and his starring role on Smallville he's only getting hotter in '06."
Thanks Janet!
Story of Fan Encounter Rates High
Fri January 6th 2006 @ 4:50PM - Cindy - Tom Welling - 3 Comments
The Marco Island Sun Times put up a list of their top ten most viewed articles of 2005. It's probably not surprising that the story they had published about Marco Island resident Jerry Masters meeting his idol, Tom Welling, was number seven. It was clearly big news for Masters who is a huge fan of both Tom and the show.
I'm not sure if readers will remember the story: Masters had been visiting a friend in Vancouver, and since the friend knew that Jerry was a Smallville fan he had arranged for them to visit several of the show's sites. They were lucky enough to view a location shoot for one of last season's most popular episodes, 'Unsafe', and it was during filming at the University of Vancouver hockey arena that Masters met his idol. Here is what Masters had to say about meeting Tom:
Thanks to Pat for the tip."After five hours of waiting, Tom Welling came up to the concession area and introduced himself to us. We were totally surprised. The fact that he would take the time to say hello and talk to us was incredible. Once the initial shock wore off, Mary Helen took our picture together."
Review for The Fog DVD Release
Thu January 5th 2006 @ 3:14AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
A fairly middling review has just gone up for The Fog over at Fangoria. As I had both suspected and dreaded, the "unrated" version doesn't really contain all that much more than the cinema version, and the scenes that have been added don't sound especially notable.
The audio and visual quality were given top marks, but most of the extras sound a little underwhelming. And worse, Rupert Wainwright apparently notes in his commentary that during the infamous – not for any good reasons, as far as I'm concerned – shower scene, Tom and Maggie “wore more clothes in the shower than I’ve seen on the beach!"
Deary me. The movie was given 1.5 skulls, and the set as a whole gets 2.5 skulls. Ah well, you can still pre-order either the theatrical or unrated versions if you want to. Someone with Undeclared in their DVD collection is hardly one to judge ...
Tom's the Best Actor in Cheaper 2!
Tue January 3rd 2006 @ 8:07PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments
Hmm, at least someone – excluding the myriad of people reading this, as well as myself – seems to like Tom's role in Cheaper By The Dozen 2; his appearance in the film has been getting very little love from the reviewers, so it makes a nice change to see an exception. One teenaged pundit at the Herald-Mail had this to say:
Short, sharp, and very sweet of him to say so. I remember when I was a teenager; I was snippy, moody, and prone to blurting things out when I should have kept the ol' mouth shut. Nothing changes."In my opinion, Tom Welling, the oldest son of the Baker family, is the best actor."
Cheaper 2 Increases Its Haul
Tue January 3rd 2006 @ 4:45AM - Cindy - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
Good news for Tom! Cheaper By The Dozen 2 actually improved on last week's take by 50%, according to E! Online. It made a total of $19.3 million over the long holiday weekend, Friday to Monday. Here is what they had to say about the film:
I would like to point out, however, that Tom isn't a fave just for teens ..."No new films opened wide, and business was up overall from the previous week for nearly all the top 10 movies. For example, Cheaper By The Dozen 2, now in its second week, was clearly attracting crowds who had taken no notice of its poor reviews. The PG-rated comedy starring Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt and teen faves Hilary Duff and Tom Welling was reportedly pulling in the family audience that had already seen Narnia and Kong. Now at 3,211 sites, the Fox release gained more than 50 percent, holding in fourth place with $19.3 million over the four days."
New Year's Resolutions - TV Style
Sun January 1st 2006 @ 5:37PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
Everyone should make a New Year's Resolution or two, even if they have no intention of keeping them; I, for instance, made the following:
- I resolve to slap stoopid people upside the head
- I resolve to watch far more television
- I resolve to make even more bad jokes on here than last year
- I resolve to have a pet monkey
Please don't tie the man up (erm ...) in another contract: I want movies! Of course if Warner Bros. wants to make those movies, I'm sure I could live with it. What says you, oh Brothers Warner?"Note to execs: have something else in development for Tom Welling, because he's about to outgrow the Clark Kent role, but he's way too dreamy to let go."
