'Fade' Screen Captures

Fri April 28th 2006 @ 10:19AM - James - Tom Welling - 4 Comments

I'm a bit more on the ball with the screen captures this week! I've just posted up 718 screen captures of Tom Welling from 'Fade', last night's brand new episode of Smallville.

I enjoyed this episode a little more than I have some of the other recent episodes; of course Tom was featured in virtually every scene of 'Fade', so I suppose that may have had something to do with it ... What did everyone else think?

Media Gallery Additions

Fri April 28th 2006 @ 2:48AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Over the last couple of days a few new (and not so new) images of Tom Welling have been added into the media gallery.

On Wednesday, since it was Tom's birthday, I thought it was as good a time as any to add Tom's High School Year Book photos back into the gallery. The first two images in the gallery, from Tom's sophomore and junior years at Okemos High School, in 1993 and 1994 respectively, were first posted on TomWelling.org back in February 2003.

I believe this is still the only site to have obtained original scans from those year books; every copy of those two images which is available on the web right now, at least that I've seen personally, was originally taken from here! I must once again thank GI John who sent them to me over three years ago.

In addition, six stills are now available from the two episodes which will make up Smallville's fifth season finale, 'Oracle' and 'Vessel'. A few other images from the episodes, which don't feature Tom Welling, are available over at KryptonSite.

Wish Tom A Happy 29th Birthday!

Wed April 26th 2006 @ 12:50AM - James - Tom Welling - 403 Comments

It's finally April 26th in the sunny – I wish – ol' United Kingdom, so it's finally time for me to wish Tom a very Happy 29th Birthday on behalf of myself, Cindy, and everyone else who contributes to or visits TomWelling.org. I hope that Tom has a fun day with his family and friends.

This will be the fifth of Tom's birthdays that I've been here to celebrate, as I've been a huge fan of Smallville since January 2002 when Tom was only 24! Even this website's launch only missed the first of those five birthdays by three weeks.

Many of you have already left message for Tom this year, and I'd like to thank all of you! If you haven't already left a message and would like to, there are still 24 hours remaining in which you can do so down in the comments section; I can't accept messages sent through email, and all messages will take a little while to be approved, so please don't post twice if your message isn't visible.

As always I will be sending your birthday messages to Tom, and with luck he'll actually respond to them this year.

'Fade' Trailer & Preview Plus 'Vessel' Info

Tue April 25th 2006 @ 2:00PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

It's that time of the week again. Both The WB and City TV have posted up their trailers for this Thursday's episode of Smallville, 'Fade', and TV.com has once again posted up a preview clip for the new episode. The clip features Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, and Kristin Kreuk. Poor Clark, always getting kicked in the cape ...

Meanwhile, KryptonSite has posted up the official description for this season's finale, 'Vessel', along with a (very badly designed) promo poster for the episode.

I've been hit with a threefer this week. My connection is still slower than it should be, I'm incredibly busy with the real life monotony, and I'm under the weather again! So, needless to say, I won't be updating much. Of course it's Tom's birthday tomorrow, so I'll make some time for that; and if you haven't left a message for Tom yet, why not?!

'Mercy' Screen Captures

Fri April 21st 2006 @ 4:06PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

I'm still having some intermittent connection problems (It's been a week already!) so these once again took a bit longer than usual, but finally, here are 408 screen captures from last night's Smallville episode, 'Mercy'. Enjoy!

On The Set Of 'Fade'

Thu April 20th 2006 @ 4:38PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

With big thanks to Jana, I've got a few more behind-the-scenes pictures from the set of Smallville, during the filming of 'Fade' just over four weeks ago.

The images feature Tom Welling, Allison Mack, the super-sekrit guest star who is only super-sekrit because I don't know his name and couldn't be bothered to look for it, and a few random crew members. You can find the images in the media gallery, and be warned that they could spoil some parts of the episode!

Smallville Magazine Details

Wed April 19th 2006 @ 12:43PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Smallville Magazine issue #14 (#10 in the United Kingdom) is now available. The issue contains exclusive interviews with Annette O'Toole, Erica Durance, and Paul Wesley/Wasilewski, along with a look back at Clark's origins. Also included is a send-off for the character who keeled over back in January, complete with quotes from Tom Welling and the rest of the cast and crew.

Al Gough had some really interesting comments about Clark's journey towards becoming Superman; I'm sure that most people already know, but just in case, I've edited the excerpt to remove possible spoilers about which character died in 'Reckoning':

"Clark [has] to ultimately step up and really embrace his destiny. Nobody can buffer or shield him anymore from these things. He's got to take it on for himself. It's definitely going to force him to take a look at his life, and realize that the decisions you could make as a high school kid and the decisions you make as a young adult are vastly different, and it's a step closer from becoming the superboy to Superman."

Subscriptions to Smallville Magazine are available to residents of the United Kingdom at Titan Magazines UK, and to residents of the United States at Titan Magazines USA.

Thanks go out to Titan Magazines for passing this information along.

Scene From Circling Serita

Wed April 19th 2006 @ 12:30PM - James - Mark Welling - 0 Comments

A preview scene from Mark's latest movie, Circling Serita, is now available at Mythicalsluglines.com. The scene, entitled "Back At The Bar", will probably be familar to anyone who read the movie's script.

And here I was, thinking that Tom Cruise is the only person who's capable of mixing a cocktail!

Smallville Round-Up

Wed April 19th 2006 @ 11:13AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

This round-up should be easy enough to complete before my connection freezes again - it doesn't involve uploading anything!

First off, TV.com has a preview clip of tomorrow's new Smallville episode, 'Mercy'. The clip features Tom Welling and Annette O'Toole; in this clip, Clark finally manages to get something off his insanely large chest. And it's not made of cast rubber.

Speaking of Annette O'Toole, she was interviewed on WB11 Morning News a couple of days ago. Annette had a lot of nice things to say about working on Smallville. The video of Annette's interview also contains a couple of clips from 'Mercy'. In addition, City TV again has a short trailer of their own. It's only about 15 seconds long, but it's nonetheless quite action-packed.

Finally, once again Ask Ausiello has some small spoilers for Smallville's action-packed season finale.

Thanks to everyone who sent in those links!

Achy Breaky Connection!

Tue April 18th 2006 @ 1:48PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

My internet connection has been slightly iffy (read: almost completely broken) since last Friday, and unfortunately my ISP can't say for sure when the problem is likely to be fixed. I had planned on making some updates over the weekend, including adding some images to the media gallery, but unfortunately I'll have to put that off until it takes me less than five hours to upload each file!

Don't worry if things are abnormally quiet around here for the next few days; I'll start making updates again as soon as I'm able to.

'Fragile' Screen Captures

Fri April 14th 2006 @ 4:03PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

I'm sorry these took longer than usual; I've been having major connection problems today, and it took about three hours just to upload the screen caps! Still, they're finally ready: here, for your viewing pleasure, are over 700 screen captures from Tom's debut directorial effort, 'Fragile'.

I probably won't get around to writing a review of the episode as I'd hoped, because I'm currently battling just to get any pages of this – and every other – site to load. I haven't even had a chance to watch the episode properly yet! That's next on my to do list ...

'Fragile' Marks the Debut of Orson Welling

Thu April 13th 2006 @ 10:22PM - James - Tom Welling - 17 Comments

Forgive me, for my I know not what I do; even though it was on purpose. Still, I couldn't help it, the surnames were too similar to miss this opportunity for absurdity! I promise I'll stick to calling him Tom (not Orson) Welling from now on. Though if Tom has even half the directing skill of Orson Welles, I'll be very happy.

It almost goes without saying that tonight's episode of Smallville, entitled 'Fragile', marks Tom Welling's debut as a director: as such the episode has been very highly anticipated by both fans and non-fans alike. On a personal level, I'm really looking forward to watching it, and on this occasion especially I would love to know what everyone thought.

Tomorrow I'll be posting up screen caps, just as I always do – they may be a little later than usual – and this time I may even make an exception by offering up a review of the episode.

Another New 'Fragile' Trailer

Thu April 13th 2006 @ 1:32PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Canada's City TV has posted up a new trailer for 'Fragile', tonight's new episode of Smallville which marks Tom Welling's directorial debut. The new trailer features scenes with Tom, Erica Durance, and guest star Emily Herst.

Unfortunately the trailer is only available in Real Media format on City TV's website; however I've also got a copy in the usual Quicktime format, which you can download here.

Thanks Jana!

Extended 'Fragile' Trailer

Wed April 12th 2006 @ 7:03PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

A slighly extended version of the preview for 'Fragile' – and a few other upcoming episodes of Smallville – is available over at the website of Sacramento's WB58 station. There are a few new scenes in this version of the trailer, as well as extended cuts of some scenes from the previous trailer.

One of the new scenes features Tom Welling and John Glover.

More TV Guide Tidbits

Wed April 12th 2006 @ 1:45PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

Over at TV Guide Online, Ask Ausiello once again has a few small spoilers for Smallville. There's nothing major this time, and the spoilers are just as vague as ever, but at least it's something.

However, on a much more exciting note, TV Guide Channel has been airing a show entitled TV Hunks & Babes over the past week. Tom is featured at #8 on the countdown of TV's top ten, err, hunks, I think. I guess he could be a babe? If you're in the US and have missed it, there are still a few more chances to catch the show over the next few days. Check your local listings for the exact dates and times.

For now, here's a video clip of Tom's segment. I decided to make this video a little higher quality than usual, as it's really fun: there are a couple of bloopers from the set of Smallville which don't appear to have been shown before, and there's also a short "smile reel". Big thanks to Cindy for capping the show. My bad for being slow to upload it ...

Preview of 'Fragile'

Tue April 11th 2006 @ 8:07PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

A preview clip from this Thursday's episode of Smallville, 'Fragile', is now available at TV.com. Michael Rosenbaum, Kristin Kreuk and Allison Mack are featured in the clip - unfortunately Tom Welling isn't in there, but I can forgive that since he directed the scene!

And though it is only one short scene, I'd have to say that Tom's direction looks pretty good. I can't wait to see this episode.

Tom Misses Another Appearance

Tue April 11th 2006 @ 1:29PM - James - Tom Welling - 4 Comments

I've spent all night (With help - thank you to everyone who joined the search crew!) looking for pictures or news from yesterday's Museum Of Television And Radio Celebrity Golf Classic – previously mentioned on March 29 – and so far everything has drawn a blank on the Tom front.

It looks like Tom either pulled out of yet another scheduled appearance at the last minute (probably due to scheduling problems), or he did his usual skillful job of completely avoiding the press cameras! I'll keep on looking, just in case, but at this point I'm readying myself to be disappointed again.

Edit: As I'd suspected, Tom didn't show up. There's no big surprise there, but it is very unfortunate.

Annette O'Toole Talks 'Fragile'

Sun April 9th 2006 @ 5:20PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

In a new interview at the Boston Herald, Annette O'Toole talks about her increasing role on Smallville. There are a lot of interesting comments, however the most interesting came as Annette spoke about how proud Martha Kent is of Clark; apparently Annette was equally proud of Tom, her television son, when he made his directorial debut on 'Fragile':

"He did such a great job. We were all like proud parents, just standing around beaming. He had to work a lot with this young girl, and he was so good with her. It was really fun to see, plus it was like cutting out the director as middleman. Tom would ask, 'How did that feel to everybody?' We'd say, 'Great!' then he'd say, 'OK. We're moving on.'"

The sun'll come out, on Thursday; So ya gotta hang on 'til Thursday; Come what may ...

Brand New TomWelling.org!

Sat April 8th 2006 @ 11:22AM - James - Tom Welling - 30 Comments

Since you're reading this, I'm assuming that you noticed the brand new design of TomWelling.org. It's very different, I don't expect everyone to like it, and I'm sure it will take some getting used to even for those of you who do like it. Still, this is what we're all stuck with now! Everyone that I gave an advance preview to gave this layout a thumbs-up, so hopefully it won't fare too badly in the opinion polls.

This design takes into account a number of the suggestions that were made a few months ago, including using a newer, more colourful image in the top banner, providing a navigation bar for each section of the site, and making it easier to leave comments and messages.

With any redesign there's a possibility of broken links and other bugs, so if you notice something that you think isn't working properly, please let me know!

Edit: Unfortunately Fan Forum is down right now, so the link to the message board isn't working. It should only be a temporary problem.

'Void' Screen Captures

Fri April 7th 2006 @ 9:24AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Here for your viewing pleasure (which is possibly more than could be said for the episode itself) are 458 screen captures from 'Void', which aired last night on the WB. I was happily surprised by just how much of 'Void' Tom managed to appear in, since he was busy planning 'Fragile' during the shoot for this episode. I can't wait to see that one, and I'm sure everyone reading this will agree with me.

I was a little disappointed by 'Void'. There were a few key plot points which are setting the stage for this season's final arc, but overall it was a fairly average episode; while not worthy of being labelled "filler", it's certainly not one of the show's better efforts.

'Fragile' Preview Trailer

Fri April 7th 2006 @ 6:26AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

As usual, during this week's new episode of Smallville, 'Void', the WB aired a preview trailer for next week's show; usually I don't post those trailers, but since next week's episode is Tom's directorial debut, 'Fragile', I think I can make an exception! So here it is: download the trailer. The trailer appears to contain scenes from a few future episodes, not just 'Fragile', but it's good enough. Thanks Cindy!

And why not discuss 'Void' down in the comments.

Some 'Mercy' Stills

Thu April 6th 2006 @ 4:45AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

A few stills from Smallville's April 20th episode, 'Mercy', have just been released by the WB. Seven of the new images feature Tom Welling as Clark Kent, and you can view those in the image gallery. Some of the images are a little spoilery, so don't say you weren't warned!

In other news, I should be launching the new-look TomWelling.org this weekend, assuming everything goes to plan.

More Spoilers From Ausiello

Wed April 5th 2006 @ 11:41AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

That funny guy over at TV Guide Online, Michael Ausiello, has yet more vague spoilers – and not-so-spoilers – for Smallville over in his latest column.

The "new" information can be summed up like so: Clark is probably going to be too busy to make kissy faces, and he may or may not be flying soon. The latter is dependent on whether Al and Miles can make up their mind. Meanwhile, Smallville is probably renewed for next season, but it hasn't been announced yet so nobody can say for sure.

Definitive answers to such pressing questions are always fun.

On The Set Of 'Fragile' And Other News

Tue April 4th 2006 @ 11:26PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

This is a nice thing to wake up to. The latest issue of TV Guide features a couple of fairly small pictures of Tom Welling on the set of Smallville, wearing his director's hat on 'Fragile'. It's slightly ironic: when John Schneider directed 'Talisman' he wore a sports jacket; when Tom directed 'Fragile' he wore a sports hat. Not quite the same, but close enough! Tom had this to say in the magazine:

"Going into it I was apprehensive about what I didn't know, but I knew I had a good team around me. Everyone was really fantastic and supportive."

And taking a step backwards from 'Fragile', which airs next week, TV.com has a preview clip of this week's episode of Smallville, 'Void'. The clip is really good – and not hugely spoilery, for once – and features Tom Welling as Clark, Annette O'Toole as Martha and John Glover as Lionel.

Finally, Cheaper By The Dozen 2 was released in the United Kingdom yesterday. It makes a change for a Region 2 disc to be released before Region 1, but I'm not complaining!

April Fool's: Tom At Another Sporting Event

Sat April 1st 2006 @ 2:23AM - James - Tom Welling - 14 Comments

It always happens this way: you don't get any appearances for a long time, and then you get a whole bunch of them in quick succession!

On April 17th, both Tom and Jamie will take part in a charity pairs dressage competition at the California Horse Show. Tom has made no secret of Jamie's participation at these events, however Tom's own horse-riding skills haven't been so well documented; Tom is also a fully trained rider, as can be seen in the opening sequence of season one's 'Hug'. I'm really looking forward to seeing Tom in jodhpurs!

More details about the event are available on the California Horse Show website.
